Notes from George Tengbeh - Weala, Africa

July 2010

June's work was fruitful. The two schools, Weala and Baypolu , are all fine. The students are doing fine and will soon be going out for practical. The students will be going out for personal evangelism, winning souls for Christ for about a week. Isn't this great?

The churches are also fine. Each member of the church is doing his or her best to continue worshipping God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The clinic is also fine. We are thankful to God for the donors who are always helping to up keep the clinic. The clinic still needs lot of equipment to have it function properly. Right now, it is helping with drugs. We are thankful anyway.

The radio ministry is also fine. I do preach on the radio every Sunday morning for 45 minutes (8:00 to 8:45am).

We are looking forward to Sunset graduation in December. But there will be graduation in September for the World English Institute, World Bible School, and International Bible Institute of South Africa. Jerry will speak to the graduates when he comes in September. Students that usually graduate from these schools are enrolled into the Sunset. Isn't this a good program?

June 2010

The work in May was cordial. Both the students and I are enjoying our studies. The two schools, the one in Weala and the one in Baypolu, are coming on fine with the students so interesting in the lessons.
Christ is being praised for all the students are achieving.

We are grateful to Sunset for the curriculum and the lessons.

The car is also fine. It is helping to speed up the teaching and our Sundays' meeting.

Recommendations:
There is a need for a guest house to be built in Weala. The guest house will be used for all of you who will visit the country for seminars and personal teachings. I already have people who are willing to do the construction.

The students need bibles that have both new and old testaments. About 30.

The churches are also fine with converts being baptized most often.

In the future, there will be a need for a building for the school. And in this building, there should be a library for research.

Lastly, we look forward for the visit of Jerry and others.

May 1, 2010

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I pray that our God continues to sustain your lives and works as you move forward.

We at Weala are doing fine. The churches of Christ established by students of the School of Evangelism are still meeting and worshiping God. We are thankful for His grace.
The church at Baypolu has a permanent place of worship now. We have signed an agreement to continue worshiping in the School building. We are asked to pay the amount of $300.00 Liberian dollars a month as rent for the classroom we will be worshiping in. It is the same class we are using for the School of Evangelism. So in all, we are paying the amount of $700.00 Liberian dollars for the worship on Sunday and for the class on Wednesday. We should have been using the classroom twice a week for class but the Board of Directors of the school reduced our day to only one time a week. Our class time runs from 4:30pm to 7:00pm each Wednesday in Baypolu. Anyway, we are still catching up with the lessons. We are grateful to Sunset.

Finally, I go to Baypolu school twice. I go there Sunday and Wednesday each week.
The class in Weala is still functioning. Sooner, we will be having many of our students baptizing in Baypolu. And this is my objective. The sooner they are baptized, I will be able to plant more churches in the villages around there. So, my main focus is Baypolu. I need your prayers.

Today, Saturday, my father and I are in Kakata. He lost his sister and we are here for the funeral.

The churches greet you. The students are excited to see any of you one day.

Not to forget, the clinic is fine too. We are making use out of it to win souls too for Christ. Thomas is there and working very hard. Our greetings to the donors.

Continue to pray for us.

January 7, 2010

The year has ended and we have begun a new year. Happy New Year to all.

December was a good month for all us. We had a good time with the Lord on the eve of the new year. The church met on the 31 to see new year coming in. We stayed out up to 1:30am worshipping God.

We had our gospel campaign from the 27 to the 31 of December. All of the churches of Christ that were established by the students of the School of Evangelism came to Weala.
We were able to find most of our brethren who have been back sliding. They came back to God with gladness of heart. An atheist was baptized on January 1. He is now part of the church. He has vowed to continue worshipping the Lord.

Training started on the 5th in Weala. It is going on in Baypolu as planned.

I am patiently waiting for the car. I need it by all means. The work is difficult without it; I really need one now. Please try brethren and give me one. The recent cheapest car now is $4,500.00. They are cheap but can last long. They are Japanese cars.

December 12, 2009

November was a good month for us at Weala, The churches all over where Sunset has planted are still meeting. Eventhough there many times we suffer to get to where we want to go. But we are grateful to God that He is with us. Thanks for your prayers.

There have been series of teaching that I have personally been involved in. I was at the Totota Church of Christ in Bong County to teach the women during their Gospel Campaign. There I met Brother Ron Pottburg, Brother Max Whea, Brother John Travis and Brother Gabriel Chea. It was wonderful meeting these brethren. I spoke on the theme: The Role of The Women in Building A Strong Church.

I was invited to speak at the Central Kakata Church of Christ in Kakata, Margibi County.

Here, I spoke on the theme: The Role of the Christians in Building A Strong And Vibrant Church in Liberia.

Then, at the women annual fellowship meeting that was held in Salala, Bong County, on a Sunday, I spoke to over 300 brethren, This was a congregational meeting for worship. I spoke on the theme: What Is the Reponsibility of Every Christian to Uphold the Church?

It was wonderful to see members of the churches of Christ to meet and praise God.

We are also planning a Gospel Campaign in Weala. This meeting will last for three days: beginning from December 29 to January 1, 2010. Our target is to bring back the lost souls who have stopped coming to service for a long time.

School of Evangelism

Registration is still in progress for students who are interesting in studying God words in

Weala. Presently, we have registered(free of charge) 10 students in Weala. We are targetting over 20 students this time. These students will be starting the courses at fresh. We are hoping to begin classes by the 5th of January, 2010.

The school in Baypolu, where we have 23 students enrolled is in progress. But as I said before, we are yet to take the Television and other appliances including the DVD's there because I do not have a car of my own. I am still using the courses' guide books to teach. The students are catching up anyway but they still need to see the real teachers on television teaching.

New Congregation

A new congregation is to be set up soon. Plans are on the way to go to the interior of Bong County to establish a new congregation. One of the first graduates, William Kolleh, who lives there will be the preacher. We will be there by the mid of January, 2010..

Conclusion

I want to thank all of you for your prayers for the work in Weala, Liberia. It is difficult be with God we are going through. Again, I want to emphasize on two things:

1. The need of the car. This is serious and hampering my work.

2. The need for each of the graduates who is now preaching to be compensated.

Other needs like Guest House for any of you who will come to Liberia is also important.

God bless.

November 7, 2009

Plans have been completed for the graduation of the students trained by Sunset on November 8.
New class will be set up after the graduation. Detail will be told later.
The class in Baypolu continues with lessons still being taught on the blackboard. The DVD lessons will resume when a car is being made available to take the television, generator, DVD lessons and other appliances to Baypolu.

Brother Arthur David, a Liberian-American Missionary, will serve as Guest Speaker tomorrow, November 8. Please support these graduates. $50.00 USD a month will help them to work

September 26, 2009

September's work has been so hard. The rain could not permit us to get to places where we planned going to preach. The heavy down pull of rain is stopping us. Taxi drivers are charging so much because of the damaged roads.

The training in Baypolu began one month ago. We are doing blackboard teaching yet because it is so expensive to travel with the television and other teaching equipment. We are waiting for the dry season to start taking them with us. I hope by that time I will have a car. Dry season starts November.

GRADUATION IN WEALA

Graduation is scheduled for the second Sunday in October. 11 students will be graduating and receiving diplomas. They should had been 12 but one died. He was Moses Kollie.

I will give you details later when we are set. Pictures of the graduates will be sent to Lanny Partain to place on Sunset Website.

RECOMMENDATION

These students will be moving to different towns and villages to establish new congregations. Please appeal to brethren in the states to support each of them. At least $50.00 a month will be encouraging.

God bless.

September 2, 2009

August was a good month only the rain is so heavy. But we are doing all we can to continue the work.

The class in Baypolu has begun with 24 students attending. It is so costly taking the DVD's, television and other needed items to teach the courses. I am unable to charter a taxi to take me up and down. Two times now I have been waiting up to 8:00pm to find a taxi to go home. Usually, class is over at 6:00pm. It is a long distance from Baypolu to go home. I go to class every Tuesday and Friday. Class in Weala is now Monday and Thursday of every week.

Two students have decided to come to the School of Evangelism from Marthar Johnson Church of Christ. These two will attend a special class every Wednesday since they are just coming in. They usually walk from their village to come to Weala. So, I am very busy now.

Outreach

In November, we are going to Sinoyea to establish a new congregation. Sinoyea is about 5 hours drive from Weala. There is a need to establish one there because few of our brethren have moved there to live. We don't want for their souls to be contiminated with denominational teachings. We have to move in.

The church in Camp #2, Salala Rubber Corporation, is moving to Baypolu. There, we want to establish a very large congregation. It is the same place Jerry Hogg spoke when students from the International Bible Institutute graduated. We have been given a building to rent for $1,500.00 Liberian dollars monthly($25.00 USD equivalient). We are using the building for three purposes.

1. to train preachers and teachers of the gospel of Christ, 2. to use it for worship every Sunday, and 3. to run a kindergarten school for the little children around there. The school will help the church members there to send their kids to school.

Baptism

Three persons were baptized last Sunday in Weala.

Health

Many of the members of the church are sick. The rain is so heavy that many are catching cold. The children more especially. My father too is sick. For him, he is so old now. He is 87 years. There is a need for a clinic in the future.

Education

Academic school will resume on Monday, September 14. Graduation for the 12th graders is on Sunday, September 13. The school is helping many of the church members to send their children to school. Members are given scholarships. They are to pay only 50% of the fees charged. 50% is free for them.

Recommendation

First thing is a car. I need one to help me with the work. The cheapest now in Liberia is $4,800.00USD. The second is a guest house. The third is a clinic and the forth is a buidling to be used for training and making research. When the building is up, there will be a need for books. The first two is a car and a guest house. We do not want for missionaries to live outside Weala the next time they come to Liberia. The car will also help to take them to Monrovia to buy their needs while with us. The academic school will still be used for training until one is built purposely for the School of Evangelism.

God bless.

In His vineyard,

George

We will have classes two times a week. Tuesday and Friday are selected every week for class. Each class will last for three hours (3:00 PM to 6:00PM).

It is now important that I get a car because I have to take along the DVD player, the television, generator and the lessons. As I continue to say, we are now in the rainy season and the down pull of rain is so heavy. Many days I will have to drive in the night to go home. The road is not pave. It is a dusty road and right now the road is muddy. It is about 45 minutes drive from Weala to Baypolu. Please see reason to send the funds to get the car in Liberia. The cheapest car now in Liberia is $4,800.00 USD. Jerry was there when we saw many cars and I pointed to the one the will suit the work. He in fact took the picture of the car.

July 2009

June's work was a fruitful one. Though we lost one of the students. He was Moses Kollie. Moses was one of the brilliant students we ever had. He Died on June 21 at the ELWA Hospital after a week's illness. He was buried on June 24. So we have 11 students to graduate on September 27.The School is doing fine. Students are progressively learning
The church too is doing fine.

We received Jerry Hogg on Wednesday, July 1 at the hour of 3:15PM. We took him to his room in a guest house that he lived in for six days. It was good seeing Jerry. He encouraged us a lot about the work.

This was his work plan:

Thursday, July 2 (From 10:00 -3:00 PM)
He taught on the below topics at different times:
Who is an evangelist and
What is the work of an evangelist?

Friday(July 3)
Time: 10:00 - 3:00PM
Lecturer: Jerry Hogg
Topics: Who is a deacon and what is his role?
Who is an elder and what is his role?

On Saturday, July 4, we went to Salala Rubber Corporation for personal evangelism. As you are already told, the church has been planted and there one of the students( Samuel Zebedee) is preaching. We baptized seven persons there. I taught here on the theme: Is Baptism Necessary?

On Sunday, July 5, Jerry preached to the congregation in Weala. He encouraged the church to keep on worshipping and obeying the Gospel. He preached on the theme: What shall separate you from the love of God? It was a good time we spent with him.

On Monday, July 6, Jerry spoke to the graduates who studied with the International Bible School from South Africa. This happened in Baypolo, Salala Rubber Corporation. Two persons were baptized there. 23 students graduated and out of the 23, 16 enrolled into Sunset International Bible Institute(SIBI). While there, we came across two persons that Tom Drinnen baptized in the 70's. The two persons also mentioned about three others who were baptized by Tom. They have promised to come back to the church.

We are now planning to start up a new congregation there. Besides, I will have to go there every Saturday to start them with the courses from Sunset. We have arranged for a classroom to be used not only for teaching but also for worshipping on Sunday.

On Thuesday, July 7, we took Jerry back to the airport for departure to Ghana. It was wonderful having him with us. We are thankful to God for him.

Recommendations:
1. There is a need for a guest house to be built here in Weala for missionaries who will come in the future to teach,

2. There is a need for a building to be used only for Sunset teaching,.

3. There is a need for a library for the students to make research,

4.There is a need for a clinic,

5. There is a greater need for a car now to be used for the work. It is completely impossible to work without a car now in Liberia,

6. There is a need for used clothings to be sent to the church.

To add up to what I am saying, Brother Jerry Hogg will explain more to all of you when he is finally home in the US. If you want for the work to improve in Liberia, please see reasons to look at my recommendations. I am planning on coming to the States to talk to all of you personally. Please help me get there. If it meets your approval I can come either in September or November this year.

God bless all of you.

Sincerely,
George

April 2009

Brethren,

The work is going on fine. All of the students are okay and waiting for the last examination. Churches established by the School of Evangelism where the students are presently serving as ministers are doing fine. Four persons have been baptized where Sam Zebedee is serving as minister in Salala Rubber Corporation. Two received baptism at Martha Johnson Town where Marshall Zeezian is serving as minister too. And in Weala, Eight new souls have been added in two months.

The school will be recruiting new students in June. These will be new students who have not studied with Sunset.

There are plans for establishing new congregations. We want to travel long distances in the villages to win souls but the only problem we are faced with is a car. The harvest is really ripe in Liberia, men are ready to move but the means to go is not there. Please brethren, help us get a car. We need one. Don't forget to know that I am now 50. I do not have the strength I had when I was 30 going 40. We are one month to the rainy season in Liberia. Traveling to do the Lord's work will be so difficult without a car.

Another problem we are faced with is a computer and a printer. We need a computer to be able to enhance our work and keep our record.
