On
September 13, 2003, the Texas Gulf Coast Bible Institute Advisory
Committee met with representatives of the International Studies
Division of Sunset International Bible Institute to formalize
an agreement naming the newly forming Spanish ministry training
institute as a Branch school of Sunset.
This was the
culmination of many months of dreaming, planning, and praying
about how to best meet the challenge of taking the Gospel
to the Spanish speaking community that now comprises the largest
single ethnic group in the greater Houston area.
Some of the
decisions, proposals, and actions plans coming out of the
meeting include:
- The school
will target September 0f 2004 for the first classes to begin.
Prior to that, there are plans for some seminars and special
training sessions.
- The school
will be housed in the Central Church of Christ building
in Pasadena, TX.
- Committees
are designated and at work to publicize the new school and
solicit funding and prospective students.
- The TGCBI
Advisory Committee is in the process of transitioning into
a Board of Directors.
- Sunset and
the TGCBI Advisory Committee have invited Steve Austin to
accept the position of Administrative Dean. Steve is presently
working with the Impact church in downtown Houston, under
the oversight of the elders at the Kingwood Church of Christ.
He is investigating the possibility of accepting the position.
- Sunset and
the TGCBI Advisory Committee have invited Ignacio Barcenas
to accept the position of Academic Dean. Ignacio is presently
working as the minister for the Spanish congregation that
meets at the Central Church of Christ in Pasadena, TX.
The Texas Gulf
Coast Bible Institute has a vision of ministry far beyond
just the Houston area. By networking with other Spanish ministry
training schools and using the latest methods technology provides,
we can see a ministry reaching North and South, touching Spanish
speaking people all over the Americas with the Good News of
Jesus Christ. |
